Senior Vocational Course
This three year course is offered to students aged 16 plus. It incorporates classical ballet training under the Russian system with academic A-level and language studies.
These are the final years of training where the classical technique is perfected and there is more opportunity for students to focus on and improve their artistry. It is compulsory for our senior students to attend pas de deux, classical repertoire, character, ballet technique (girls only) and modern classes. There are end of year assessments in the main disciplines, examined by external Russian adjudicators. These must be passed in order to continue to the next level.
All senior students are expected to take part in performances, outreach work and tours as part of the LRBS company. There are opportunities for exchange work and competition preparations for students who show exceptional dedication and potential. Performances are part of the repertoire requirements of our vocational students and are necessary for their academic development. It is important that vocational students understand it is a privilege and not a right to stand on the stage.
Alongside their academic programme students must study History of Ballet and Theatre and Music. Theatre trips to see the Bolshoi and Maryinsky Ballets when on tour in London will be arranged and there are opportunities to observe company class. Exchange programmes with Russian schools are part of the course.
Acceptance to the Senior School is by audition only.
Successful applicants may be invited to attend ballet classes at LRBS immediately in preparation for the next academic year.
