Our students follow the Professional Russian Ballet Method of Training, which has produced many of the world’s greatest ballet dancers.
During the senior vocational course, students refine and polish their technique and artistry, and continue their preparation for a career with the world’s leading dance companies.
Bursaries are always available to those who need assistance. Please

London Russian Ballet School offers a three year, sixth form vocational course in the Professional Russian Ballet Method. Students attend school six days a week. There are daily ballet classes, pas-de- deux lessons, repertoire, pointe, contemporary dance and Scenic Theatrical /Character Dance, which is a separate discipline in the Russian system, taught by a Character Principal of the Russian stage and which includes both character barre and repertoire.
The course includes lessons in the history of music and there is basic instruction on anatomy. Ballet History lectures are given during the year on different topics by professional ballet historians.
The artistic staff, former senior soloists from the great Russian stages, are in charge of the ballet classes. They are highly experienced individuals who have had a long life on the stage, dancing a difficult and broad repertoire, where they benefitted from working with renowned artists. They offer a depth of knowledge both artistic and technical which is a unique experience for the students who are taught the same syllabus they would receive in a serious Russian ballet school. LRBS aims to help students to become not just a dancer but an artist. The student is encouraged to understand ballet as an art form that requires deep respect, hard work and commitment.
Performance Practice and experience
The vocational programme involves extensive theatre performances with live accompaniment, which is very rare for a school. The School performs at least three times per year or more on a professional stage, a vital experience for the growing artist. There is no other environment in which the student may test themselves, taking their classwork and the teaching they have received to the stage in order to discover what they may offer their audience as an artist both technically and emotionally. The preparation for these performances involves extensive repertoire work and rehearsal at a professional level.
Opportunities are made available during intense periods of preparation to work with world class guest teachers and répétiteurs
Outreach performance work
The School is involved with extensive performance outreach work in the borough of Lambeth, and performs for local schools and at charity events over 8 times per year. These performances offer further vital repertoire practice and preparation for these performances is as serious as for any theatre production. As the majority of vocational students receive a substantial bursary to enable their training, outreach performances are a means by which these students return what they receive, performing for less privileged children in Lambeth and in turn inspiring these young children to think differently about themselves.
Academic work is compulsory at LRBS. Each student must take a minimum of two A level subjects, but most sit three. The school believes that each student should be a rounded individual and well prepared for life, in an increasingly competitive world. LRBS aims to offer students choice and a wide range of possibilities.
The school believes profoundly in communication and honesty between student and teacher and asks for clarity on all matters. LRBS believes this to be the best path to develop each student’s potential both artistically and personally.
Association with the Bolshoi Ballet
The school is proud of its Association with the Bolshoi Ballet which offers LRBS students an exceptional opportunity. They are able to perform on stage alongside world class artists who exemplify the best in ballet. This gives students of LRBS the means to measure themselves against the highest standards of performance and technical excellence. A stage artist is not created in a vacuum. LRBS believes genuine inspiration gained by working with those who are part of the greatest ballet company in the world is the way to be tested in preparation for the stage.
Students have access to dress rehearsals and performances of visiting Russian companies which provides important insights necessary for their own theatrical development.
At the end of the vocational ballet course, the student receives a Diploma in Professional Russian Ballet Training as well as A-level certificates in chosen subjects, and full assistance with audition preparation.
Postgraduate and Professional Classes
These classes provide the opportunity for those who are professional dancers or those who have already graduated to continue to study. This is a classical ballet
course for improving technical and artistic skills, learning new repertoire, enjoying theatre practice and gaining stage experience. Students on this course may also wish to study A-levels and history of ballet, music theatre and art.
